The Hakone Ekiden is one of Japan's most prestigious and historic relay marathons, held annually over two days in early January.
It is ran by university teams, with each team of 10 runners completing a series of long-distance legs between Tokyo and Hakone, a scenic area to the west. The event is famous for its intense competition, passionate fan support, and the deep-rooted tradition in Japanese athletics. In honor of the relay race, Nike has released a commemorative line of fast footwear. The event’s massive fandom serves as the colorway inspiration for the Ekiden Zoom Pack.
